I am came across a strange issue. My backup Jobs was continously failing with error "0x00000001 Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.". But when I went to backup file path location and checked, the backups were happening but the Job was failing. There was no further error stack trace or no clue in my error logs or in windows event logs. I was totally blank so as to what was happening.

You are trying to take a Database Backup and you might end up with below error:

"Msg 3021, Level 16, State 0, Line 1
Cannot perform a backup or restore operation within a transaction.
Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally."

The error clearly says you are running Backup operation under a transaction, sample code below

what happened, what is the case. Its simple, You might be running the ShrinkDatabase command within a transaction as sample below.

You try to recyle your Error log file say using EXEC sp_cycle_errorlog or you have scheduled a Job to recycle your Error log file on periodic bases and sometime you might come across below error

There are many scenarios where in you might come across a Differential Backup Job failed with following error.

"Cannot perform a differential backup for database "", because a current database backup does not exist.Perform a full database backup by reissuing BACKUP DATABASE, omitting the WITH DIFFERENTIAL option.  BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally."

You might have come across this error in some of the occasion.

"Backup, file manipulation operations (such as ALTER DATABASE ADD FILE) and encryption changes on a database must be serialized. Reissue the statement after the current backup or file manipulation operation is completed."

You might get this error when one of your Backup Job fails or Shrink Database Job fails or while you are taking a backup manually or shrinking a database manually etc.
